Emily Mure

Artist Details

Emily Mure is a classically informed chamber-folk songstress. She writes introspective songs with haunting vocals reminiscent of Mazzy Star and Norah Jones.

Emily got her start in music playing the oboe. Growing up in New York City and attending LaGuardia High School of The Performing Arts, she performed in major concert halls, including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall, all before the age of 17. While majoring in Oboe Performance at Ithaca College, Emily picked up guitar and began writing songs, integrating her classical roots with her folk and Irish inspired singing and songwriting. After college, Emily moved to Ireland and began her songwriting career as a busker on the streets of Galway. She built her performing chops in Ireland and then returned to her native home of NYC, where she is currently based.

In the last few years, Emily was an emerging artist at The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and has opened for acts including The Duhks, Kim Richey, Kris Delmhorst, Garrison Starr, and Kath Bloom. Her music has appeared on TV networks including ABC and PBS. In July of 2013, Emily released her second full-length album, Odyssey. This year, her music has appeared on NBC, and on numerous radio stations including SiriusXM’s The Loft and North Country Public Radio. In June 2014, she will be performing at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival as part of the prestigious Troubadour Songwriting Competition.

Odyssey, is described as “an album of unpretentious, straight-and-true songwriting that draws from contemporary folk, acoustic country and intimate chamber pop” (Direct Current Music) and “introspective, unorthodox, and powerful” (Adobe and Teardrops). Easy Ed (No Depression) says of Emily’s music, “There was/is something about her songs and voice that made me want to go off into a quiet place and to be sure I captured each and every note”.
