Lady & West

Artist Details

Lady & West put the emphasis on the ‘&’. The acoustic duo accredits their sound to the alchemy they share as artists and as a couple. The name originated from the combination of two influences: ‘Lady’ for the melodies of the Jazz Age era, and ‘West’ for old country music. But the band’s influences range from American Blues and Art Song, to Jack Kerouac, Henry David Thoreau, Neil Young, William Blake, Bert Jansch, Vashti Bunyan and Muddy Waters. Singing and writing for all the ancient reasons, they’ve been called evocative, transportive, hypnotic, and pure. Jennifer Billiot is from Texas, Kirk Garrett is from Kansas, but the two currently live and create in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and travel upstate as often as possible to the mystical Catskill Mountains and Hudson Valley. Their debut album, Bright Soul, was recorded at Orb Recording Studios in Austin, Texas with producer, Matt Noveskey. It released April of 2014.
